For the past year, I have had the honor of serving as the Chair of the Site Selectors Guild, the only association of the world’s foremost professional site selection consultants. As I reflect upon my term, I’m struck by just how much our profession continues to evolve—and how critical the role of a professional Site Selection Consultant has become in shaping economic growth in an increasingly complex environment.
Over the past year, the pace and scale of change have been remarkable. From the acceleration of advanced manufacturing and life sciences to the growing demands around energy capacity, workforce readiness, speed-to-market, and community support, site selection today sits at the intersection of business strategy and public policy in ways we haven’t seen before.
One theme that stood out clearly at our recent Spring Conference in Atlanta was the importance of partnerships. As projects grow more complex—spanning workforce, infrastructure, energy, and policy—success increasingly depends on strong, aligned collaboration across the public and private sectors. No single organization or jurisdiction can go it alone. The most successful outcomes we’re seeing are the result of deep, trust-based partnerships that bring together companies, communities, utilities, developers, and government leaders with a shared vision.
This reality has been reinforced through our work at Biggins Lacy Shapiro & Co. over the past year. Across our client engagements, we’ve seen firsthand that the differentiator is rarely just a site—it’s the strength of the ecosystem behind it. In the life sciences sector in particular, successful projects require a highly coordinated approach: alignment with research institutions, access to specialized talent, scalable infrastructure, and a regulatory environment that can move at the speed of innovation.
At Biggins Lacy Shapiro & Co., we bring this perspective to every engagement. We help our clients navigate the increasingly complex issues that define modern site selection—from site development and infrastructure readiness to utilities strategy, incentives negotiation, and community engagement. In today’s environment, these factors are deeply interconnected, and misalignment in any one area can impact timelines, costs, and long-term viability.
Our role is not only to identify the right locations, but to help de-risk decisions and create clarity amid complexity by working alongside clients and stakeholders to anticipate challenges, align interests, and keep projects moving forward. Whether it’s coordinating with utilities to secure power at scale, structuring competitive and responsible incentives packages, or fostering community support for transformative investments, we focus on turning strategy into execution through strong, proactive partnership.
During my time as Chair, the Guild has also taken important steps to strengthen our role as a thought leader in the industry through launching new initiatives, expanding our voice on critical issues, and deepening engagement among our members. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together and even more optimistic about where the organization is headed.
As I transition from the Chair role and continue my involvement on the Board, I do so with great confidence in the Guild’s future leadership and its continued impact on the profession.
The challenges ahead are real, but so is the opportunity. And if this past year has reinforced anything, it’s that our ability to navigate what’s next will depend on how well we work together.
At Biggins Lacy Shapiro & Co., this is exactly how we will continue to approach our work. We look forward to partnering with our clients to navigate complexity, unlock opportunity, and deliver successful outcomes to bring together the right data, the right stakeholders, and the right strategies to move projects forward with confidence. As the industry continues to evolve, so will our commitment to helping clients make informed, forward-looking location decisions.
Partnerships aren’t just a theme—they are the foundation for what comes next.
